SUMMARY:The Well Presents: A Holiday to Remember
DESCRIPTION:Proceeds support The Well Resource Center in our Fairfield community! www.thewelliowa.org \nThis performance is not associated with the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s 2023-2024 Season. \nTicket price $25 General Admission \n  \nA Holiday to Remember is a masterful one-man performance of two beloved Truman Capote short stories\, “A Christmas Memory” and “The Thanksgiving Visitor.” Performed in Fairfield’s Sondheim Theatre accompanied with original music by Paul Carrol Binkley\, promises to be a highlight of Fairfield’s holiday season. \n“The Thanksgiving Visitor” \nThe story centers around the character\, 7-year-old Buddy\, his only friend and elderly cousin\, Miss Sook\, and other characters from the beloved Capote short stories. They prepare their old country house for Thanksgiving\, but at the same time\, Buddy finds himself a target of the freckled bully\, Odd Henderson. As the story unfolds\, themes of love and friendship are revealed\, wrapped up in the heart of the Thanksgiving holiday. \n“A Christmas Memory” \nAnother Capote favorite\, this poignant story also follows Buddy and his favorite cousin as they complete their Christmas traditions. They make fruitcakes\, trek through the woods to choose the perfect Christmas tree\, and fly their homemade kites on Christmas day. Unfortunately\, it is their last Christmas to spend together. \n  \nAbout David Alford \nDavid Alford is a graduate of the Juilliard School for Drama. He was the founder and Artistic Director of Mockingbird Theatre in Nashville\, TN\, and later Executive Artistic Director of Tennessee Repertory Theatre. Most recently\, he served as Visiting Artist-in-Residence in Theatre at Berry College in Rome\, Georgia. \nDavid appeared as Bucky Dawes in the television series Nashville (ABC) for its six seasons. Other screen credits include The Good Fight (CBS) The Blacklist (NBC)\, The Last Castle (DreamWorks)\,  A Death in the Family  (PBS/Masterpiece Theatre)\, Stoker (Warner Bros)\, and the web series Local Air. \nRecent stage credits include Mr. Marshall in the Broadway revival of Little Foxes (Manhattan Theatre Club)\, Billy in the workshop production of Donald Margulies’ Long Lost (Illinois Theatre)\, and the title role in The Columnist (Tennessee Rep). His one-man performance of Truman Capote’s  A Christmas Memory  was a holiday staple for Nashville audiences for over a decade. \n  \nFor information contact: The Well Resource Center | (641) 819-4047 | email: kerryd@thewelliowa.org \nRun time: 1 hr. 45 min. with intermission. \n

SUMMARY:The City Without Jews
DESCRIPTION:With live original music composed and performed by world-renowned klezmer \nviolinist Alicia Svigals and celebrated silent film pianist Donald Sosin!\nSet in the Vienna-like city of Utopia\, H. K. Breslauer’s 1924 The City Without Jews (Die Stadt ohne Juden) follows the political and personal consequences of an anti-Semitic law to expel the city’s Jews. When things start to decline\, the National Assembly must decide whether to invite the Jews back. The film’s stinging critique of Nazism is part of the reason it was no longer screened in public after 1933. Masterfully restored by Filmarchiv Austria. \n \nThe City without Jews (Die Stadt ohne Juden) (1924) Trailer from Gartenberg Media Enterprises on Vimeo. \n\nMore information about the artists: \nAlicia Svigals \n \nDonald Sosin
