The year is 1782 and the American War for Revolution is in its last days. Longing for adventure\, Jim comes under the hypnotic spell of the legendary pirate\, Long John Silver. While waiting tables in the family Inn\, Jim finds a treasure map and\, with the villainous Silver as his seeming mentor\, sails uncharted seas with only the ragged map and a flock of Gulls as guides. Always up for adventure\, Jim’s Ruffian friends say farewell to their Mariner parents and serve as cabin boys for Silver and his band of hilarious (although unsavory) Pirate types. Once on the island\, nights are sleepless as true colors are revealed in our hero’s quest for the proverbial happy ending. Then – at last – the treasure is found and hand in hand we’re homeward bound. \nSPECIAL WORKSHOPS \nImprov \nListening\, creativity\, bravery – all important skills for the Improv Actor to hone. This workshop emphasizes teamwork and “all-in” participation as the students learn to act without a script. Students of any experience level will be successful in this workshop. \nBehind the Scenes \nActors have very important jobs to do to tell a story\, but there are so many people who make theatre magic happen before the curtain even rises! This workshop explores the world of Costume Design\, Set Design\, and Makeup Design to give students a taste of the many artforms involved in making a performance great. \nPut Your Best Foot Forward \nGet your groove on with this fun\, physical workshop. Students will learn different styles of movement and dance used in Theatre to create an interpretive dance of a classic fairytale! This workshop is great for all levels of movers. \n

MY ASCENSION is an inspiring look at Emma’s story\, and includes firsthand experiences of families\, friends\, school officials\, and suicide prevention experts. The film does not shy away from the difficult realities of the ongoing youth suicide crisis\, but shares valuable resources to help keep teens safe. \nThe Jefferson County Mental Health and Wellness Alliance offers this film with free admission and invites mental health professionals to bring their expertise to share in an info booth area before and after the screening. Additionally\, for any that need it\, counselors will be available to talk with attendees at any point during the screening.

SUMMARY:Short Film: The Land of Nothing by Amine Kouider
DESCRIPTION:Showtime:\nSaturday\, 6/7 | 7:30 PM \nFREE ADMISSION \nLocal filmmaker Amine Kouider will present a special screening of The Land of Nothing\, a new surrealist short film ten years in the making. \nThe film weaves poetic imagery and dreamlike storytelling to follow a poet’s search for his lost muse through a vibrant\, colorful\, and mystical landscape where the threads between worlds are thin and the boundaries of reality begin to blur. \nThe film was created as part of the David Lynch MFA in Filmmaking at Maharishi International University and supported by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council. \nThe screening will include some of Amine’s other creative work and will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker.
