SUMMARY:Ballet Des Moines presents "SHE"
DESCRIPTION:An evening of powerful beauty created by the dance world’s leading and emerging female voices: Jennifer Archibald\, Shannon Alvis\, and Stephanie Martinez. This triple bill provides audiences a unique blend of artistry\, athleticism\, and joy\, as these award-winning choreographers tell stories of love\, longing\, and laughter that resonate with us all. \nSHE is presented via partnership with Ballet Des Moines in solidarity with the Odesa National Ballet in Ukraine\, who were forced to cancel their North American Tour. The Odesa National Ballet would have performed Swan Lake at Fairfield Arts & Convention Center on April 6\, 2023. We are grateful to Ballet Des Moines for stepping in with this groundbreaking performance\, and we are humbled by the generous spirit of the international arts community. A portion of the proceeds of this event will be donated to the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund. \nIt is an honor to present SHE as a symbol of solidarity with our Ukrainian artist brothers and sisters. We hope that people young and old will feel inspired by these dancers and know that their own voices are powerful\, too.

SUMMARY:CANCELED: Swan Lake
DESCRIPTION:We regret to announce that Odesa National Ballet of Ukraine has been forced to cancel their highly anticipated performance of Swan Lake at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center this spring. However\, we are excited to relay that Ballet Des Moines will be stepping in to replace the canceled performance with a revolutionary production entitled “SHE.”  \nThe cancellation of Swan Lake by the Ukrainian Odesa National Ballet was made necessary by the Russian conflict in the country and the crises it has caused at all levels of society. In an act of solidarity\, Ballet Des Moines will offer an alternative production\, to be performed at Fairfield Arts & Convention Center on Friday\, May 5th. A portion of the proceeds of this new event will go toward supporting the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund. \nIf you are a ticket holder for the original Swan Lake performance\, please look for communication via email and snail mail regarding this change. If you have not been contacted by February 15th\, please reach out to boxoffice@fairfieldacc.com or call (641) 472-ARTS. \nBallet Des Moines’ revolutionary performance of “SHE” exemplifies the powerful voices of female representation through the works of three diverse and internationally-recognized choreographers. SHE seeks to promote inclusion and belonging while engaging participants in meaningful dialogue about why representation matters in a vibrant community. \nSHE was created with all audiences in mind\, recognizing that diversity should be celebrated in all forms. Attendees can expect an immersive experience with each delicate movement complemented by stunning costumes and spectacular lighting design. The choreography is designed so that viewers from any background can appreciate the beauty and technicality of classic ballet while enjoying the uplifting message of unity and hope. \nSHE is presented via partnership with Ballet Des Moines in solidarity with the Odesa National Ballet in Ukraine. We are grateful to Ballet Des Moines for stepping in with this groundbreaking performance\, and we are humbled by the generous spirit of the international arts community. A portion of the proceeds of this new event will be donated to the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund. \nIt is an honor to present SHE as a symbol of solidarity with our Ukrainian artist brothers and sisters. We hope that people young and old will feel inspired by these dancers and know that their own voices are powerful\, too. We can all speak up against injustice.

SUMMARY:Zakir Hussain and Masters of Percussion
DESCRIPTION:We are not planning any weather related changes to the performance schedule this evening\, but we urge wise travel decisions and look forward to seeing you safely tonight! \nSince 1996\, Zakir Hussain has served as curator\, conductor\, and producer to bring the very cream of Indian music and world percussion to tour America and Europe with his series\, Zakir Hussain and Masters of Percussion. \nGrowing out of his renowned international tabla duet tours with his father\, the legendary Ustad Allarakha\, Masters of Percussion began as a platform for both popular and rarely heard rhythm traditions from India. While performing and collaborating in India for a few months every year\, Zakir has sought and unearthed lesser-known folk and classical traditions which feed into the greater stream of Indian music\, playing an educational role in affording them greater visibility\, as well as introducing them to audiences in the West. Over time\, the constantly changing ensemble has expanded to include great drummers and percussionists from many world traditions. \nAll of it creates a truly beautiful field from which he can bring Masters of Percussion to the West. This year will be no exception\, presenting American audiences with extraordinary\, exciting and spontaneous combinations of percussive as well as melodic performances. \nThe results are absolutely unforgettable. Critics and audiences agree — Masters of Percussion really delivers. \nCall the Box Office at (641) 472-ARTS for group rates and youth discounts!

SUMMARY:One Night in Memphis
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a night of rockabilly\, country\, gospel and pure 1950’s rock and roll with “One Night in Memphis” — a high energy concert that takes you back to December 4\, 1956\, the night when four of the biggest names in early rock and roll — Elvis Presley\, Carl Perkins\, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash — gathered together for an impromptu jam session at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. \nCreated and directed by John Mueller from the highly acclaimed show\, “Winter Dance Party\,” the evening gets off to a rocking start with Carl Perkins performing hits like “Honey Don’t\,” “Brown-Eyed Handsome Man\,” and “Blue Suede Shoes\,” while offering up anecdotes about life as a sharecroppers’ son and his musical influences. Midway through his set\, Carl invites session musician Jerry Lee Lewis to join him and the Killer seizes the opportunity to front the band and lead the audience on a musical journey from New Orleans to Nashville and eventually into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. As Jerry puts the finishing touches on a set which includes “High School Confidential”\, “Breathless\, “Whole Lotta Shaking Goin’ On\,” and “Great Balls of Fire\,” the audience will have an opportunity to catch their breath as Johnny Cash is welcomed to the stage with his signature “Hello\, I’m Johnny Cash.” And then the musical journey through Cash’s timeless catalog begins — including smash hits like “Folsom Prison Blues\,” “Ring of Fire\,” and “I Walk the Line.” Next up…Elvis Presley\, who electrifies the audience and transports them back to his beginnings where he went from driving a truck to delivering eleven #1 hits between 1956-1959. Hits like “Shake\, Rattle & Roll” to “All Shook Up\,” “Heartbreak Hotel\,” “Don’t be Cruel\,” and “Hound Dog.” \nThis tribute to that memorable night in Memphis when Elvis\, Johnny Cash\, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded at Sam Phillips’ Sun Studios features nationally acclaimed cast members who have the uncanny sound\, look and feel of the original legends\, plus an authentic and energetic rockabilly backup band. You will feel as though you are witness to a rock and roll royalty jam session with the legendary performers whose music has stood the test of time. \nCall the Box Office at (641) 472-ARTS for group rates and youth discounts!

SUMMARY:Southeast Iowa Blues Society Presents: Danielle Nicole Band
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Southeast Iowa Blues Society — not eligible for FACC pass or package sales. \n\nWith special guest opener Matt Woods! \nDanielle Nicole\n“That girl gets down to the nitty gritty.” ~ Koko Taylor \nDanielle Nicole Schnebelen began music from the moment she was born. Musical influences from generations on both sides of her parent’s families ensured that a love of playing music would continue to be passed among her and her siblings. \nFans love her for her raw yet controlled vocals and her gutsy lyrics\, which act like a sucker punch on the often male-dominated blues scene. Critics love her for her obvious skill\, honed to a fine point and often garnering her critical acclaim and national awards. \nNicole’s distinctive\, inventive bass work—which resulted in her not only becoming the first woman to ever be nominated in the category of Instrumentalist – Bass in The Blues Foundation’s 2012 Blues Music Awards\, but also the first woman ever to receive the honor—is the product of years of intensive roadwork. \n \nAs a founding member of the “Heavy Blues” sibling band Trampled Under Foot\, she and her brothers took top honors at the International Blues Challenge in the US\, propelling them into Canada\, Scandinavia\, Europe\, UK and was featured on several Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruises. In 2015 Nicole set out on her own with the release of “Wolf Den” recorded in New Orleans with Anders Osborne. \nNicole’s 2017 release of “Cry No More” ushered in not only a heavier sound and style differentiating Nicole’s already broadening voice and writing\, but also accrued a slew of accolades including a 2019 Grammy Nomination for Contemporary Blues Album. She has now added 5 Blues Music Awards and 3 Independent Blue Music Awards to her trophy case. \n7:00 PM – Doors Open \n7:30 PM – Matt Woods \n8:30 PM – Danielle Nicole Band \nMatt Woods\nMatt Woods is both a native of Iowa\, and a longstanding purveyor of its diverse music scene.  As a seasoned performer of many local\, regional and national venues\, Matt has developed a distinct style while staying true to his love of traditional American music.  Woods is well versed in the many shapes this music can take; from traditional delta\, hill country and urban electric blues\, to gospel\, country and folk music.
